So, the best thing to do in such a situation is to keep our eyes open, be aware if the child is facing any issues, and consult a doctor from the best Pediatrician in Chennai, if you notice some difference in your child’s behavior, thinking, etc.

Cancer, a deadly disease, that has caused uncountable deaths among adults, is a common disease suffered by kids too. Brain tumor, a prevailing type of cancerous/non-cancerous tumor that affects the brain, is one among the many cancers suffered by children.

Brain tumors are of different types - which are divided based on cancerous (malign) and non-cancerous (benign). Let’s have a look at the different types of brain tumors.

TYPES OF BRAIN TUMOURS

Choroid Plexus Carcinoma: These are cancerous brain tumors that begin near the brain tissue that secretes cerebrospinal fluid. The non-cancerous type of cancer that originates from here is called Choroid Plexus Papilloma. The growth of the tumor may affect the functions of the brain.

Craniopharyngioma: These are non-cancerous (benign) tumors that begin near the pituitary gland of the brain. This gland is responsible for secreting hormones essential to control many body functions.

Embryonal Tumors: These are malignant tumors that emerge from the fetal (embryonic) cells in the brain.

Ependymoma: This tumor may start in the ependymal cells in the brain or spinal cord, which is also the passageway for the cerebrospinal fluid to flow.

Glioma: Another tumor that begins in the brain or spinal cord. It commences in the glial cells that surround the nerve cells and help them in functioning. These glial cells, if not replaced, may produce tumors.

Medulloblastoma: These are malignant tumors that occur in the lower back part of the brain, which is called the cerebellum. This part of the brain is involved in muscle coordination, balance, and movement.

Pineoblastoma: This type of cancer begins in the cells of the pineal gland of the brain. This is located in the center of the brain and is responsible for managing your wake-sleep cycle.
