A hydrocele (HI-droe-seel) is a type of swelling in the scrotum that occurs when fluid collects in the thin sheath surrounding a testicle. It is caused when something is wrong with one of the testicles (testes). For example, infection, inflammation, injury or tumours of your testicle may cause fluid to be formed which leads to a hydrocele forming.
